# Getting Started

## Prerequisites

* **Active Azure Subscription** — An active Azure subscription is required to deploy and manage the Backup4Dynamics Azure Managed Application.
* **User with Owner or Contributor Role in Azure Subscription** — A user with owner or contributor role permissions is required to install and manage the Backup4Dynamics Azure Managed Application.
* **User with System Administrator Role in Dynamics CRM** — A user with system administrator role in Dynamics 365 CRM/Dataverse is required to configure and manage Backup4Dynamics.
* **User with Global Administrator Role in Microsoft Entra ID** — A user with Global Administrator permissions is required for automatic app registration during the Backup4Dynamics setup.
* **Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 Account with Hierarchical Namespace Enabled** — A customer-owned Azure Storage Account with hierarchical namespace enabled (Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2) is required in your Azure subscription to store the backup data generated by Backup4Dynamics. Ensure that this storage account is created and available before configuring Backup4Dynamics.

This diagram provides an overview of the Backup4Dynamics architecture, clearly showing which components are **Backup4Dynamics solution (Inogic IP)** and which are **customer-owned** within your Microsoft tenant and Azure subscription. It also illustrates how data and control flow between these components.

* **Backup4Dynamics solution (Inogic IP)**, installed into Dataverse from AppSource/Website: the Home page that deploys the Azure side and shows its status, and a plugin that keeps original *Modified On / Modified By* values during restore.
* **Backup4Dynamics Azure Managed Application (Inogic IP)**, deployed into a managed resource group in your subscription: the Admin portal & API, the worker jobs, job metadata storage, Key Vault, and managed identities. Inogic ships and updates it; you pay the Azure running costs.
* **ADLS Gen2 storage (customer-owned)**, in your own resource group and outside Inogic IP. You control access, region, redundancy, and lifecycle, and the backups stay there if the application is removed.
