Generate Permanent Access Token from WABA

A Permanent Access Token is required to authenticate WhatsApp Business API requests and allow WhatsApp4Dynamics to communicate securely with your Meta WhatsApp Business Account.

Follow the steps below to create a permanent access token in Meta Business Settings and add it to your WhatsApp4Dynamics configuration.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure:

• You have administrator access to the relevant Meta Business Account.

• Your WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) is already configured in Meta.

• You have access to the Meta Business Account that owns the WhatsApp number.

• You have access to the WhatsApp4Dynamics configuration where the token needs to be added.

Step 1: Open Meta Business Settings

Sign in using the Facebook account associated with the Meta Business Account that manages your WhatsApp Business Account.

Go to Meta Business Settings.

After signing in, select the Meta Business Account associated with the WhatsApp number you want to configure.

Step 2: Open System Users

From the left-side navigation menu:

1. Go to Users.

2. Select System Users.

3. Check whether an existing System User with the required Administrator role is available.

Use an Existing System User

If you already have a System User with the appropriate administrator access, you can use that user.

Option 2: Create a New System User

If you do not have a System User:

1. Click Add.

1. Enter a suitable name for the System User. For example: WhatsApp4Dynamics Integration

2. Select the Administrator role.

3. Click Create System User.

Step 3: Assign Assets to the System User

After selecting the System User:

1. Select created System User and Click Assign Assets.

1. Select the relevant WhatsApp Business Account and give Full Access.

1. Select the relevant App and give Full Access.

1. Click on Assign Assets.

Important: The permissions assigned to the System User determine what the generated access token can access. Make sure all required WhatsApp permissions are selected before generating the token.

Step 4: Generate the Access Token

After assigning the required assets and permissions:

1. Select the System User.

2. Click Generate New Token / Generate Token.

1. Select the Meta App that is used for your WhatsApp Business API integration

2. Click Next.

1. Select Token Expiry: Never

1. Under the available permissions, select:

• business_management

• whatsapp_business_manage_events

• whatsapp_business_management

• whatsapp_business_messaging

1. Click Generate Token.

Meta will generate an access token for the selected System User and application.

Step 5: Copy the Permanent Access Token

Once the token is generated:

1. Copy the complete access token.

2. Store it securely.

3. Do not share the token with anyone.

Step 6: Add the Token to WhatsApp4Dynamics

• Open your Dynamics 365 environment and navigate to the WhatsApp4Dynamics Configuration.

• Open the Meta WhatsApp Business API configuration and locate the Permanent Access Token field.

• Paste the token copied from Meta into this field.

• Save the configuration after entering the token.

Step 7: Validate the Configuration

After saving the configuration by entering all the necessary configuration details, use the available Validate option in WhatsApp4Dynamics.

The validation helps confirm that:

• The access token is valid.

• The token has the required permissions.

• WhatsApp4Dynamics can communicate with Meta successfully.

If validation is successful, you can continue with the remaining WhatsApp4Dynamics configuration.
